- FIFA Confederations Cup is a soccer tournament of national teams which is currently held every 4 years and is used as a dress rehearsal for the FIFA Soccer World Cup the latter is held 1 year after the Confederations Cup.
- Eight teams participate in the Confederations Cup – host, current World Cup holders plus the winners of the 6 FIFA Confederation areas. The 2009 teams are:
- South Africa (hosts)
- Egypt (CAF)
- Iraq (AFC)
- Italy (Winner 2006)
- Spain (UEFA)
- USA (CONCACAF)
- New Zealand (OFC); and
- Brazil (CONMEBOL).
